Many young people are becoming involved in cybercrime these days, and the number of fraudsters in Nigeria is increasing on a daily basis. People are defrauded both in the country and abroad. 

Internet fraud, often known as Yahoo-Yahoo is the act of acquiring money from a person or organization under false pretense.

Many young people in the country have found a home in cyber fraud, which they use as a source of income. Some young people go so far as to form an organization dedicated solely to defrauding others.

In Nigeria, cybercrime is considered a criminal violation punishable by several months or years in prison, however fraudsters continue to conduct the crime despite knowing the consequences.

1. They defraud for monetary gain. 

First and foremost, for financial gain, youngsters engage in internet fraud. When it comes to money, these con artists are willing to go to any length to swindle someone. As a result, money is one of the reasons why some young people continue to commit fraud.

2. It is done in order to oppress others. 

Some yahoo boys engage in cybercrime solely to oppress others. For example, a yahoo boy in a flashy automobile stopping to ask a girl out on a date who is strolling down the street with her boyfriend. Another example is when a yahoo guy flaunts his opulent lifestyle on social media in the hopes of becoming famous.

3. They do it for the sheer enjoyment of it. 

Finally, some teenagers engage in internet fraud for amusement. Some of the yahoo boys come from an affluent family, but due to peer pressure, they chose to work for Yahoo not for the money, but for the enjoyment. They do it simply to fit in with their peers. It's bad that these con artists are celebrated and welcomed in society. The long-term consequences of cybercrime are still unknown.
